For those who want a clutter-free home, then this modern and minimalist San Francisco home is for you.
Designed by LA-based interior designer Joyce Downing Pickens, the stunning home is situated in the Russian Hill neighborhood, known for the famously crooked Lombard Street.
The clients, a couple in their thirties who love to entertain originally purchased the modern structure, but tasked Pickens with bringing warmth to the home with a serene color scheme.
When Pickens started working on this project, she was drawn to the expansive views that the home offered. With wrap-around windows showcasing stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz, Joyce immediately fell in love with the house and knew she could create a beautiful space for her client.
Though the view is undoubtedly a show-stopper, it’s also what made designing this space so tricky, as it was imperative not to block any windows with bulky furniture that could disrupt the views.
White walls and pale wood floors serve as the backdrop for wood furniture in dark and light tones, and pieces in contrasting cream and black hues.
The living room draws inspiration from Alcatraz island, including green, creams, browns, and pops of black. She also opted for low-seating to keep views intact while maintaining the free-flowing feel of the home.
The kitchen is sophisticated yet playful with warm woods and plenty of texture. The same idea is echoed in the dining room and beautiful breakfast area.
Rounding out the interior design are metallic accents and plush fabrics to help to warm up the pared-down interiors.
By incorporating funky and bold furniture pieces and statement decor, Joyce created a dream space for her client that represented their professional, yet a fun lifestyle.
What was once a cold, modern space is now an inviting home with a sophisticated and contemporary edge that Joyce’s client looks forward to spending many years in.
